Under the direction of the CEO, the Assistant Buyer will be responsible for achieving sales and gross margin goals by leading back office business operations and facilitating purchases for all Broome St. General & Company Stores & ecommerce. Ideally you will suggest, create and implement initiatives to optimize sales and margins including development of a Purchasing Plan/Calendar. This position will be located at our office/retail concept Oficine and will require occasional in-person customer service.


  • Lead purchasing with existing vendors that drive efficiency in inventory levels while balancing ROI and investment in multiple departments
  • Lead end-to-end new vendor procurement and upload of new products and brands to all POS platforms and Inventory Management System
  • Understands customer merchandise needs and expectations through contact with staff, customers and managers
  • Provide and coordinate product and service training as required
  • Assists with analyzing and estimating order/reorder quantities, retail pricing and/or changes of trade products for regular store merchandise and new vendors
  • Review weekly/monthly/seasonal sales performance to identify potential re-order opportunities and recommend styles that require markdowns
  • Manage financial elements of business: OTB, IMU, MD, and subsequent supply chain & inventory management to ensure on-time delivery
  • Partner with styling, photography and ecommerce teams in delivering seasonally appropriate content for ecommerce, social media, promotional campaigns and projects


  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • 1-2 years experience as Assistant Buyer or related support expertise in a fast-paced, dynamic, mixed retail environment
  • Proficient with Excel and strong skills with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite
  • Experience with Square, Shopify and Stitch Labs or similar cloud-based inventory management systems
  • Must possess strong analytical skills including all aspects of retail math
  • Availability on weekends and holidays
