Double Chocolate Halva
Halva is a delicious confection with Middle Eastern origins dating back to the 13th century. Yeah, I looked that up on Wikipedia. My first experience with it was seeing varieties lined up at NYC institution Russ & Daughters... I had never seen anything like it. Was it solid hummus? Do you put it on a bagel? Is it No dumbass, it's sweet and flaky
FROM THE MAKERS
It wasn't too long after we released our first Chocolate-based halva when we started hearing from an underrepresented group of people who, unbeknownst to us at the time, found themselves on a spectrum known as the Choco-Fanatic Spectrum*.
At first a few messages would trickle in on the company line and we would naturally take it in good stride. We'd say to ourselves, "Wow, some folks really like Chocolate, eh?" But what started as a trickle became a deluge, and we started receiving Choco-Fanatic messages with a real, shall we say, zeal... a fever pitch if you will. "More Chocolate, More Chocolate, More Chocolate, I can't get enough Chocolate in your exquisite halva! If there was more Chocolate in your halva I would just lose my mind with delight! My neighbors will hear me eating your halva I'm telling you what and the nearest neighbor is like a mile away! Give me more Chocolate Hebel & Co! More Chocolate! Ahhhhhh!!!!"
This is how the messages went.
Alas we have given into the will of the people. We have created for you the most Chocolatey halva on this planet. And not only did we take on this task with absolute merriment; we've taken on the task by not using some ho-hum Chocolate you might find in other—dare-we-even-say-halva—we've sourced some of the most robust, beautiful, organic, off-the-charts, deep, dark, outrageously Chocolatey Chocolate for this halva. The Chocolate notes are complex, fudgy, nutty—you will be hard-pressed to be able to ask yourself, "Where's the Chocolate?"
"What should we call it?" we asked ourselves.
We held a contest at the factory and it seems there could be only one name. Everyone agreed, "Double Chocolate."
*Choco-Fanatic Spectrum: This is phenomenon experienced by some people whose limit for Chocolate cannot simply be appeased by medium or even large amounts of Chocolate, but require massive amounts of Chocolate to temper their insatiable desire for more Chocolate.
